Naturo’s Latest PR Activation: A Fresh Approach to Dog Ownership at Hackney Marshes

At Naturo Natural Pet Foods, we’re dedicated to not only providing premium nutrition for pets but also making a positive difference in the world of responsible pet ownership. This commitment took centre stage at our latest PR activation at Hackney Marshes, where we tackled a common issue that affects everyone in public spaces: dog poo.

Dog poo may not seem like a glamorous subject, but it’s an important one. Despite the availability of waste bins, dog owners often neglect to pick up after their pets, leading to unpleasant and unhygienic conditions, especially in popular areas like Hackney Marshes, home to over 80 football pitches. That's why we decided to take action.

The Problem: Dog Waste on Football Pitches

Every Sunday morning, youth football teams gather at Hackney Marshes to practice and play, but before any matches can begin, coaches and players are forced to clean up the fields - picking up dog waste left behind by irresponsible pet owners. This not only disrupts their training but also creates potential health risks. Dog waste can carry harmful bacteria and parasites, such as E. coli and roundworms, which can pose a threat to both children and other dogs using the fields.

We at Naturo believe that responsible dog ownership goes beyond feeding pets high-quality, nutritious food. It includes cleaning up after your dog and ensuring public spaces are kept safe and clean for everyone. Our PR activation at Hackney Marshes was aimed to raise awareness of this issue and encourage dog owners to take responsibility for their pets’ waste.

The Campaign: "Dogs Don’t Care Where They Poo, Naturo Do"

To address this issue, we launched a creative and attention-grabbing campaign title: “Dogs Don’t Care Where They Poo, Naturo Do.” The campaign’s goal was to not only raise awareness but also provide practical solutions to help dog owners clean up after their pets.

The Naturo Poo-lice Squad: A Fun Take on Responsibility

One of the most talked-about aspects of the campaign was the introduction of the Naturo Poo-lice Squad. Dressed in eye-catching uniforms, this team patrolled Hackney Marshes, educating dog owners on the importance of picking up after their pets. The squad didn’t just enforce the rules - they handed out free Naturo-branded dog waste bag dispensers, ensuring dog owners had easy access to bags when they needed them. With this simple but impactful step, we aimed to eliminate one of the excuses for not picking up after pets.

The Naturo Poo-lice Squad also added an element of fun and engagement to the campaign. By approaching the issue in a light-hearted yet meaningful way, we were able to connect with the public and encourage more responsible behaviour, all while generating plenty of buzz both at the Marshes and online.

Spreading the Word: Making a Statement with Hackney Marshes

To make sure the message was loud and clear, we also transformed Hackney Marshes into a massive platform for our cause. Using chalk paint, we wrote large-scale messages directly onto the football pitch with the slogan: “Our number 7 shouldn't have to pick up your dog's number 2”. This humorous but impactful statement was designed to turn heads and get people talking - both on the ground and on social media.

Why This Matters: Creating Lasting Change

Our activation at Hackney Marshes is more than just a fun campaign. It’s about making a real difference in public spaces by encouraging responsible dog ownership. According to surveys, dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets cite inconvenience as one of the top reasons. By providing easily accessible waste bags, and by educating the public in an engaging way, we’re helping to reduce this problem in one of the UK’s most popular outdoor areas.

At Naturo, we’ve always believed in doing things differently. Whether it’s using sustainable, locally sourced ingredients in our natural pet foods or finding innovative ways to promote responsible pet ownership, we care deeply about our pets, our planet, and our communities.
